If you own a website or blog and you want to dramatically increase the number and quality of visitors you get, you need to encourage people who visit your site, to share what they find with their friends.

Thankfully, we know that when people find material on a website, which they believe will be of interest to their friends and contacts, they are more than happy to forward it to them. This is why websites like FriendFeed, StumbleUpon, YouTube, Twitter and Digg have become so popular. They allow people to easily share things with their friends.

In order for you to benefit from the viral power of the Internet, there are two things you should consider.
1. Content

Firstly, you need to have content on your site, which is worth sharing. This means your content has to be better and more valuable than the typical material, which people find on your kind of site or blog. Many blog owners feel compelled to write ’something’ every day; indeed many so-called “social marketing gurus” even write posts telling people to do this. The challenge this presents, is that very few businesspeople have the time required to write new, valuable content every day.

Post only when you have something worth sharing and focus on quality, not quantity.
2. Make it easy to share

Secondly, you need to make it super-easy for people to share your material with their friends. I use a free plugin for this blog called sharethis, (see below), which allows people to share what they find here, on any sharing or bookmarking site (or via email) - quickly and easily. Just a few mouse clicks and that’s it!

As a result of focusing on what I believe to be valuable content AND making it as easy as possible for people to share it, I get thousands of new visitors from sharing / bookmarking websites every week.

Take a moment to look at the last few websites, articles, videos, blog posts or whatever; which YOU have passed on to your friends. Now ask yourself this question: “What was it that motivated you to share that material and how can YOU use that same kind of motivation, to get others to share YOUR content?”

Is This The Secret To Success?

I want to discuss a key that is vital in your quest to achieve you life goals.

Ask any successful person what was it that enabled them to reach goals that to the ordinary person appeared beyond comprehension, they will tell you they took action. If you do not take action on a goal or a dream it will eventually die.

Being decisive and taking action fortunately is a skill that can be learned. Successful people do the opposite to unsuccessful people in as much as they make decisions quickly and change them slowly, if at all, unsuccessful people make decisions slowly and change them quickly.

Unsuccessful people want everything in place BEFORE embarking on a goal achieving journey; they continually ask 'What If Something Happens?' Successful people ask 'What if it doesn't happen?'

Top achievers do not wait until every 'I' is dotted and every 't' is crossed before they decide to take a course of action. Once they feel they have enough information to make a decision that is just what they do, they then use the time on their journey to modify plans, take different directions, even stop and re-consider. But they took the initial action to get going, un-achievers procrastinate and are subject to inertia.

It was Dr Martin Luther King who said, 'Take the first step; You do not need to see the whole staircase before you, just take the first step in faith.'

You see there is no shame in failure. To successful people failure is only finding out that what they were doing needed modifying, they learn from the experience.

I have experienced both situations, although I have always been known as a person who makes decisions quickly, embarking on some activities that were doomed to a lack of success. But each time I did not succeed another lesson was learned what I was doing was not the correct way to reach the goal I wanted. Time for analysis and modification - so what at least I was going toward my goal not sitting hoping something would happen.

There were times in the past however when I used to blame anything around me, people, events situations for my lack of success, I always had an excuse. You know what is the wonderful thing about our minds? We cannot tell ourselves lies. Think about it, when you are looking to blame someone else for you lack of success isn't that an outside thing, don't you just know deep inside yourself that the responsibility really lies at you own door.

Remember when you point a finger there are always three fingers pointing back.
There are three types of people in the world as far as I am concerned.

Those that make things happen; Those that sit back and watch what is happening and finally those that say 'Uh! What happened?'
To which group do you belong?

Fortunately for me I learned to take responsibility for my own actions, and everything that is in my life NOW is a direct result of ME bringing it into my life, no one else - ME!

There again it is amazing how little effort you need to exert to start off making things happen in your life. As you start toward your goal you attract more and more energy that drives you toward success. Getting into action helps you maintain action; it's the simple law of physics, once a body is moving it is easier and easier to keep it moving.

I can only use the analogy of driving a car, at first as you press the accelerator you move slowly but the law of physics takes over and the car moves easier and easier with less pressure on the accelerator (Gas pedal for our American colleagues).

Look at your goals you have written down. Just take one of them and decide to take action on it NOW! Ignore the fact that you haven't planned out the finest detail, ignore the number of times your negative self tells you it cannot happen Just DO IT! Choose a reward you will give yourself when the goal is achieved; no matter if it is just a goal to clear the garden of weeds, take action and you will quickly learn that the only way to achieve a goal is to take action in the first place.

As Martin Luther King jnr said "Take the First Step In Faith" This is where your journey begins but only if you take that fist step with ACTION!

AS SEEN ON TV � How the telly changed our homes

I saw some new variety of cookies in Tesco the other day - in the cereals aisle. I think they were yet another one of those substitutes for a sensible breakfast, marketed, presumably, at the apparently increasing numbers of people who regularly fail to find either the time to pour milk and cereal into a bowl, or to just grow up and eat fruit or something.

This new variety of pseudo-food shouldn't have taken me by surprise, though, apparently: "As seen on TV," it said on the box. Oh yes, I thought, of course, I'll have half-seen an ad at some point, won't I? Then I remembered, I don't have a TV.

One day my brain might start paying attention to what I'm doing� That's the least one should be able to expect, surely?

But anyway, it got me thinking: not about my brain's inattentiveness, but about what those words actually mean - "As seen on TV." Do they mean anything at all? It's a phrase now so deeply ingrained into our culture, yet what exactly are we supposed to take from it?

Well, the literal meaning is obvious, of course. But� well, so what? They've been on telly�. and? What do you want me to do about it? Even if you were to show me them on the world's largest High Definition LCD TV with full-on Dolby surround sound, I still wouldn't be moved to drop a pack of Kellogg's oaty choc-chip breakfast cookies into my trolley the next time I might be in Tesco. Just because they've been on telly it doesn't automatically mean they must be chewy and delicious, or any better for you than real food; just as no matter how many times Jordan appears on our screens doing that tiresome impression of a surly piece of mahogany with breasts, that doesn't mean she has any actual talents. And it never will.

Talking of people with no discernible talent beyond relentless self-promotion, another place you'll see "As seen on TV" is as a helpful reminder on posters for nightclub appearances by long-forgotten Big Brother contestants. Clearly, then, no good can come of these words. They're the celebrity equivalent of a leper's bell. Not even a warning; more a curse.

It's at Woolworths, though, that "As seen on TV" reaches the full heights of absurdity: wander around the shop for long enough and you'll find a whole range of gimmicky food chopping devices, stick-on lights, and complicated cleaning implements, all boasting this debatable achievement on their packets. You'll know when you've found them. They'll all be gathered around, and beneath, a television playing a seemingly endless video loop of them in action. Yep, as seen on TV indeed.

Still, be sure to stay until it plays the ad for a cheap lcd tv. How else are you going to learn that a huge teddy bear can be safely zipped inside one of these things, all the air sucked out with a hoover until the bag and bear are flat as a gym mat, so that - without fear of doing it the slightest damage - it can be merrily run over (and back) by your Land Rover driving husband? Yes, I know. Truly, it is a wonderful age we live in.

Or so it sometimes says on TV�
